Shalom beautiful family. I don't know if it's chilly yet where you're at but the cool weather has arrived here in New Orleans. Now, for us southern belles, "the cool" means there's a breeze outside and the temps are in the 60's. We have to wear long sleeves which is not our 'thing' down here at all but we deal. "The HULK" is a whole nother story though...expect plenty of posts once the Hulk arrives because I will be INSIDE, wrapped in 2-3 blankets, sweaters, AND socks. Needless to say, me and winter don't get along too well. :)
Anywho, I'm not posting today to bash the winter, I know it's necessary like every other season. (Being that fall is just starting we have a split second to go still before it gets ridiculous.) Winter comes with many benefits, one of them being, the Detox. That's the name I've given those 'bugs' that are rampant in our homes around this time of year. After Spring, summer, and fall are so full of decadence. Cakes, pies, frozen sweets, drinking, parties, and feasts! Then when winter comes and our bodies slow down, we pay for it. So, when I feel the temps begin to dip, I start to prepare my family for the months ahead.

An ounce of prevention is always worth more than a pound of cure, but because I
know that we don't all have time or a full herb cabinet to work with I will give
a few tips for both. A glass of warm or room temperature lemon water in the
morning is great to cleanse your systems. There's a promising recipe for
lemon/cucmber/mint water swimming around the social networks right
now....it's definitely worth a try. Another good blood cleanser is chlorophyll.
Yep, that stuff we learned about in biology that makes plants
green. It's completely tasteless in small doses and can be added
by the capful to your bottled water. I found a bottle on Amazon
for under $10. I know how it is to be on a tight budget so if these
options are out of range, exercise and plenty of water are close to free and
work WONDERS keeping a body healthy and toxin free. All these things are
nothing compared to a superior 'livity'...that is, making sure the food you
eat is creating life inside you. Trust me, I get cravings for terrible
stuff too...ALL THE TIME! I live within walking distance to Popeye's
and TMH knows how much I love fried chicken...but I'd sooner fry it at home, or
better yet, fry-bake it than drop $$ on death in a box! So make sure, above all
that you're eating right, and in proper proportion. Take advantage of all
the delicious vegetable options available in the cold months. Greens, greens,
greens!!!

So, life gets hectic and you're going a mile a minute and BAM, you wake up
feeling all flu-ish....what do you do now? Your options are plentiful! A great
overall immune booster that I keep on hand is Echinacea tea. I find it on the
tea aisle in the grocery store, but it can also be ordered in bulk
online. It's delicious so don't fret about drinking it often,
especially if you, like me, love a cup of hot tea to start or end your day. I
have even mixed it with ginger and garlic for an extra strong tonic. I usually
only mix if I have noticed the signs of a detox beginning, and drink about 3-5
cups a day until symptoms are gone. I once ate an entire bag of
oranges when I noticed a sniffle and I was better by day's end...all that
vitamin C worked a miracle. :) The most easily accessible remedy that I
recommend for just about everything is a tea of fresh garlic and/or ginger,
fresh lemon juice and honey(real honey, raw preferably). Steep the root
(gar/gin) in boiling water, cool, squeeze in half or whole lemon and add
REAL honey to taste. This simple mixture has kept my family healthy for
years now. I usually buy a bag of garlic at the beginning of winter that lasts
til the end. I've tried my hand at growing my own garlic but no luck. I'm trying
again this fall. Send some prayers up for my yellow thumb please
ya'll!

Above all, keep your stress level as low as you can. The times when I find myself the most open to these 'detox' days is when I'm stressed out. Even a little
stress will have me waking up with a headache, fever, or runny nose. Smile and
laugh as often as possible and even in the cold months, get as much
sunshine as you can. Our quick fix in those times when tension is
high and the cares of this world start getting the best of us is to
pop in a comedy...usually stand up, let down our guards and just laugh. Some of
it is raunchy but so what?!..just don't over indulge (input=output)...taking life too seriously is the beginning of becoming a stick in the mud...and nobody wants to be stuck in the muck!

That's my two cents family. I hope I've been helpful. I find it best to stock up in advance so that when the bugs pop up, you're ready. I just placed a refill order of some bulk stuff just to be sure. If you need any more info on herbs,
preparations or help with a particular 'bug' just let me know, I'm more
than willing to chat it up with ya'll!

-Good Health and
Positive Vibrations :)
